This project is a study in linear precision and shadow play. Unlike attached structures, this freestanding pergola relies on four stout corner posts and a perfectly leveled header system to remain rock-solid. The crowning feature is the tight-interval lattice roof, which was engineered to provide optimal shade while maintaining an open, breezy feel for the stone patio below.
The woodwork here features “tails” on the rafters with a custom decorative profile, adding a touch of traditional flair to an otherwise modern, minimalist design. The use of hidden fasteners ensures that the focus remains entirely on the wood’s natural beauty and the clean intersections of the beams. It serves as a beautiful architectural anchor for an expansive backyard view.
